An Electro-Mechanical Weighbridge is a type of vehicle weighing system that combines mechanical levers with electronic components to measure weight. It represents a hybrid between traditional mechanical weighbridges and modern electronic systems, offering reasonable accuracy and cost efficiency, especially in areas where full electronic systems might be cost-prohibitive or where rugged mechanical systems are still preferred.
Platform/Deck – Where the vehicle is placed for weighing; typically made of steel or concrete.
Mechanical Lever System – Transfers the vehicle’s weight to a central load-sensing point using a series of steel levers.
Load Cell or Mechanical Load Sensor – Converts the mechanical force into an electrical signal.
Digital Weight Indicator – Displays the calculated weight from the electrical signal.
Optional Printer/Computer Interface – For recording and reporting weights.
Durability – Mechanical parts are highly rugged and can endure harsh conditions.
Cost-Effective – Typically less expensive than fully electronic weighbridges.
Simple to Operate – Suitable for basic weighing needs in remote or under-resourced areas.
Hybrid Functionality – Allows gradual upgrade from fully mechanical to electronic systems.
Rural or remote locations
Older industrial facilities
Sites with basic weighing needs and budget constraints
Transitional installations upgrading from mechanical systems
